Craftsmanship and culture :

In the Chaozhou area, peanut sesame sweets are often artistically molded for numerous purposes, such as praying for blessing, making sacrifices at an altar, thanking the gods and so on.

Bakers can also mold the sweets according to the requests of the customers or their own creation.

After cooking and mixing, the compound of peanut and sesame is at a soft, molten state. However, when cooled naturally, it becomes a hard, crispy sweet, and will not melt after being packaged.

The best-before date of the sweet is the 45th day after the production, but it can be displayed for at least one year.

When paired, Chaozhou peanut sweet and sesame sweet are used as sweets for engagement, and as a result they are together known as ‘Yuan Yang* sweet’.

Yuan Yang Gold Coin:symbolizingthe harmony ofheaven andearth, andthe amassing of fortunes.

*Yuan Yang – literally means‘mandarin ducks’, and since the male and female ducks are always seen together, the term symbolizesmarriage or couple.
